Notifications and reminders

First Six can send you a few useful nudges — a reminder before a task is due, a heads-up when staff reply to a help request. Notifications are opt-in and easy to turn off, so you decide what reaches you.

Turning on push notifications

  1. Open Settings

    Head to Settings in the app.

  2. Turn on notifications

    Flip the notifications toggle. Your phone or browser will ask permission to send notifications — say yes.

  3. Send yourself a test

    There's a test button so you can confirm they're working on this device.

Best after you install the app

Notifications are most reliable once First Six is on your home screen — see installing the app. Turn them on per device: enabling them on your phone doesn't enable them on your laptop.

What you can get reminded about

  • Task reminders — a nudge a few hours before a task is due, so deadlines don't sneak up. This needs push notifications on.
  • Replies to your help requests — when a staff member responds, you'll know, and you'll also see it in your help inbox.

Staying in control

You can switch any of this off in Settings at any time, on any device. If you'd rather get nothing, leave notifications off entirely — the app works fine without them, you'll just see updates when you open it.

Common questions

The toggle says notifications aren't available.

A few things can cause this: your browser doesn't support web notifications, you denied permission earlier (re-enable it in your browser/phone settings), or you're on a device where it isn't set up. Installing the app to your home screen usually resolves it.

Will I get spammed?

No. Notifications are limited to genuinely useful things — task reminders you asked for and replies to help you raised. There's no marketing.

Can I get reminders without notifications?

The app always shows your tasks and timetable when you open it. Reminders that reach you when the app is closed need notifications on.
